Indian Rain

Poem by: dynamic12

Summary

In this poem I tried to draw similarities between the rain and the life of a newly married Indian woman. In the first stanza I depicted how arrival of rain is similar to an arrival of bridegroom’s wedding procession at bride’s home. It depicts how a typical Indian wedding takes place. The second stanza draws similarity between how rain and the bride is welcomed at their new home. The third stanza deals with the behavior of those who love rain and the newly married woman. The last one explains the behavior of those who doesn’t like rain and the newly married woman. Throughout the poem similarity is implied without any mention of the newly married woman with an intent to focus mainly on rain.

Indian Rain

Music band in form of thunder;

Fireworks made of thunderbolts

Announce the long awaited arrival of

The grand wedding procession

Where rain ties a knot with earth

And the bride gets a warm reception

With a garland of colours seven

In a new home, now she searches for a heaven.

~

Rain is well received by one and all

Birds sing melodies from trees so tall

Trees wave happily with exotic fervor

And children relish its loving shower

~

Village folks love and cherish the rain

For it quench their thirst, easing their pain

They love rain like true love

For their survival depends on its arrival from above.

~

City folks behave like typical in-laws

Blaming and cursing the rain for their woes

Not realizing – they are the victim of their own device

And only rain could make their home – a green paradise.
