A response to A Feeling of Nothing. This is basically how my feelings developed, from a strange sense of nothingness to a growth that I am quite sure will eventually turn out to be something. I guess I'll just have to find out :)

I was always so confident

In my mind

So solid

So stabile

In what I knew

And I thought not of sadness

Or gladness

Or such

Just because I had knowledge

And brains

Oh, that laughable reason!

That logic, once scorned

Lies a heap in the muddle of thoughts in my brain

And I wonder

Of structures

I thought I had laboured

To build--

Now strangely forgotten

Oh, what of a mind

When the heart’s gone to meddle

Affairs that were never her own!--

--So now,

I find my eyes downcast

On paths newly-trodden

So far from the ones I had known

--but yet--

I notice--

while walking--

Things--

(how had I missed?--)

Once simple

Turned grandly profound

(Like now--)

Or the way that the moonlight

Drips through oaken leaves

Like the sand

In the waves

Or the dust in the breeze

Or a note

Changes rhythm

A harmony

Whole

And a word

Speaks a thousand--

The same

And when

Even the ocean

Is caught between shorelines

Must not the sky, then,

Also be?

(Or the heart?)

I was always so confident

In my mind

So solid

So stabile

So insecure--

Perhaps that is why

My heart came to meddle

For where is there life

In routine?
