Will you paint me a picture?

of something bland—

rather like a light fixture,

and the way the shadows land

in the corners of the room.

WIll you put on the canvas sheet,

a scene of something grand?

maybe a galaxy or the galaxy’s seat—

and the sun’s everywhere eye

held in the hand

of the clear cutting sky.

Or instead will you capture the memory,

of a sad summer’s song

and the foolish youth’s reverie

as if we were still out along

the hills and the trees?

The melody of

that hopeless heartsong.
