We only remember the dreams we have right before we wake what is going on in our mind the other 8 hours of the night?

Sometimes when I wake up alone

I wake up out of control.

I think you haunt me in the dreams I don’t remember.

When I open my eyes

I feel inexplicable pain

What did I see last night?

I try to recall in vain.

Dreams are like real life

In the way they slip away

If you don’t record what happened

You can forget by the end of the day

How did it feel?

When you held me in your arms

I wish I had taken more pictures

Or had written down that part

Some of the details are faded

I think I might have made some things up

To fill in the gaps

Or to cover some things up

And just like crazy dreams,

none of it makes sense

But I’m always thinking about it

Trying to find meaning in this.

Then on those dark mornings

I awake with a blank memory

But with tears in my eyes

Something oppresses me.

So I wonder if it’s you

That I see while I sleep

In the dreams I can’t remember

In nightmares I’ve never seen
