Bittersweet Fear
How can it be so many days,
Of pain and hurt and lies
Can disappear, without a trace
When I fall into your eyes?
What is it that makes me see,
The beauty, so long lost
Explain to me, how can it be?
And tell me of the cost.
If life has taught me nothing
If my sorrow meant no more
That nothing of such splendour
Was made to long endure
So will that fated hour come?
And, pray tell, where will you be?
When the bells of time sing their song
Will you wait with me?
Do I stand alone again
To whisper empty hallows?
Or will a kindred heart be there
And join me in the shadows?
Can I venture into the light
And bask in dreams divine
Will you flee if I lean on you?
Or dare ask that you be mine?
All I want to tell you
Is you’re the meaning of desire
Your eyes are stormy gems to me
That engulf my soul, entire
Your arms are like a cage to me
But a prisoner, I am not
My haven is in your embrace
And the outside world forgot.
I’ve fought for every breath in life
I’ve struggled just to speak
I swore to any heaven there
No one would make me weak
I’d never let a heart get close
Not near enough to reach
I built up walls and kept them strong
Impervious to breach.
So how can be that with just a look
You breeze so freely through
Why is it that I’m never scared
Of what your words can do?
Should it be a warning
To crawl back where I’m safe?
Or are you just a blessing
And perhaps I shouldn’t wait.
Is your patience boundless
Dear heart, what will you do?
If my mind screams: hesitate
Will you wait it through?
Can you chose to be that man?
The one who won’t alarm.
If I need a moment
Before I fall into your arms.
If you know I ask too much
I promise you’ll be free.
My heart will break and soul be torn
But I’ll face it silently.
I’ll watch you leave into the dark
And ask the soul above;
“Would it change a single thing,
“If he knew it’s him I love?”
