I was once asked to write a poem about someone I knew by a teacher of mine. While I had a lot of options, I wanted to pick someone unique in my life. Someone that was more than most people would think if they saw them on the street. And so I couldn't think of anyone better than my own Grandfather, thus born "Elderly Gentleman"

“Elderly Gentleman” by EDS

A small and thin old man,

Standing tall despite his age.

Thick gray hair combed back,

And a neatly trimmed beard

That tickles his chin.

A hooked nose hangs above the smile,

Until you look away.

And a deep thoughtful look,

Replaces the one of joy.

Those eyes so old have seen their share,

Of nightmares and wonders all the same.

And despite the scars of war,

That loving smile holds the line.

Until you look away.
