OUR GRAMPA ED
By
Edward J. Bradley
Rise and Shine ! With Grampa Ed.
Spends All Night & Day In Bed.
"Always Sleeping !" Someone Said.
Can’t Awaken Grampa Ed.
No One Knows How He Gets Fed.
"Lives On Air !" Our Grampa Ed.
"He’s So Lazy !" Someone Said.
"There’s No Work ! From Grampa Ed."
Some Folks Say, "He Must Be Dead !".
They Don’t Know Our Grampa Ed.
"Healthy Enough!" Doctor said.
"My Cash-Cow ! Your Grampa Ed."
Kept Us All Clothed, Housed & Fed.
"Who Knows How?" But Grampa Ed.
An Active Life ! Once ! He Led !
Now Too Tired ! Our Grampa Ed !
Once Awoke ! Found Himself Wed !
Back To Sleep ! Went Grampa Ed.
No One Tells How We Were Bred !
Neither Will Our Grampa Ed !
Most Romantic ! When Abed !
"They Find Me !" Claims Grampa Ed.
Had Five Wives ! They’re Now All Dead !
Meant More Sleep For Grampa Ed.
Wars Were Fought ! Some Died and Bled !
Not The Case ! For Grampa Ed.
Much In Life ! Is Filled With Dread !
Noted Not By Grampa Ed.
"Current Events !" Must be said.
Inspire Not ! Our Grampa Ed.
Must Know Something ! Stays Unsaid !
"Make A Guess !" Says Grampa Ed.
No News Story Goes Unread.
Nothing Escapes Grampa Ed.
With Eyes In ... Back Of His Head.
Hard To Trick ! Our Grampa Ed.
Sometimes Gets Hot. If Instead,
We Talk Too Much Before Bed.
"Knock-it-off ! Now ! Go to bed !"
Last Words From Our Grampa Ed !

I liked it. It made me smile and it made me think of my grandpa. I love him so much and I've almost lost him to many times. wonderful job. thanks for writting it. It really did make me smile. ;) arrivaderci-mandy
i enjoyed this poem, especially the fact that it's written from a grand-child's view point and i believe you are going to be the greatest gram-pa.
just remember to introduce the little one to poetry as soon as possible.
happy trails.
LEBEA:
Thank you for the compliment/s. Yes! My grand-son will be exposed to children's poetry. My own and that written by others. If I get to live long enough, I'll expose him to it all as he arrives at the appropriate age/s.
Thank you again.
Happy trails,
Ed Bradley.
Well Mr. B--that's just so cute ! I read to my children from the beginning, and they all love books. A bookstore is our favorite shopping place! And I never had much grief while they were growing up. The usual things maybe, but I was always home for them, and I believe it makes a tremndous difference. That new baby is lucky to have you for his Grandfather. Enjoy him :)
Very nicely done Ed. I enjoyed it very much. May your new grandchild bring much joy and happiness into your life. Peace and love, SN.
It is quite apparent just how much fun you had writing it... thats what makes it fun to read!... you brought back some wonderful memories with this piece my friend as I lost my grandpa many years ago... seems just like yesterday now... thank you for that!
VERY, VERY enjoyable. adorable!
I really enjoyed this, and it genuinely made me laugh out loud...
I guess Grampa Ed will forever be found alive and in bed..
Great work
Scribblings of a middle aged mad man:
Thank you for the compliment. Glad you liked it and made you laugh. Have some others posted which are, also, intended to make the reader smile or laugh.
Thank you again. For the "read" and the comment.
Happy trails,
Ed Bradley.
This piece conjures images of my own grandfather. Rather cranky and unapproachable, however patriarchy and respectable as well. Thnks fr th mmrs...haha! :-)
I like pieces of poetry that speak for themselves as poetry is a short story all its own. I particularly like pieces with no explanation for the reader. After all, are we not attempting to invoke an emotion from the reader based on their own perception? An emotion from the reader is neither right nor wrong...it just is :-)~ K
Smart man, that Grandpa Ed.
Very amusing poem- it made me smile.
SpringGreenT:
Thank you for reading, commenting and the compliment. Glad you liked it.
If you also gave it a "I Like It" vote, "Thank you" for that as well. A reader can always revisit a posting to cast such a vote at a later time.
Thank you again.
Happy trails,
Ed Bradley.
I really liked it. Very well written. Great work. I wish you well and God Bless. Lisa
Ed, your poem - adult role models: Made me smile.
Made me smile as I lay in bed, pondering on what the ol' man said. Grampa Ed's Ok by me; I took my son to see the movie Gandhi when he was only 3, and now a social justice lawer he plans to be.
what an inspirational piece and what a blessing to have a beautiful wee grandson
Thats a grandpa all over, for the last week I've been doing my grandfather's watering system for him and each day I have to take it to bits because he has a better way of doing it than he did the day previous. But in doing so he has taught me every trick there is to back yard plumbing. I think gardening should go on a parent-child bonding list somewhere. Great poem.
You have an excellent poem. I like your use of words ending in -ed for all the lines of the poem. It is a very appealing style to different audiences, especially children. Thank you also for being my fan.
azure2s:
Thank you for reading, commenting and the compliment. Glad you liked it. Have quite a few others for children as well. All rhyme and with, hopefully, an entertaining cadence and/or rhythm.
You are most welcome. Looking forward to reading all of your postings and giving an "I Like It" vote to those which appeal to me. Hope you have and are able to enjoy great success on Booksie.
Happy trails,
Ed Bradley.
Very brilliant poem! Very enjoyable and I really like reading your work!
Simple poems can take so much work! This is very impressive and funny too! Yay!
Gosh now I wish I had known my grand dads. This was such a gret poem. I felt uplifted by it. He sounded like a great person to meet Your Grandad Ed.
Freespirit4fr:
Thank you for reading, commenting and the compliment. My intent was to make fun of myself as, in April, 2007 and for the 1st time, I became a grand-father. So! You see! I am "Grampa Ed".
Enjoyed your comment. Thank you again.
Happy trails,
Ed Bradley.
I must admit that when I received your request to become a fan whilst ploughing through my messages that my first reaction was to whince. This should not be taken personally, any request would have received this involuntary action. This is probably because my only knowledge of requests for friends has been that written about MySpace in the news where, allegedly, thousands of oily teenagers and middle aged agoraphobic fruitcakes contact allegedly talented celebrities to read their inane witterings and add them as a friend so that they can convince themselves that they are popular.
You will understand, therefore, the feeling of trepidation that I experienced when I came to open your page to read what I was being offered. In truth I was expecting your work to be at best awful and had decided to be utterly caustic in my criticism of it as a lesson for all whom would dare to force their friendship upon others-the knives were out and raised jingoistically above my head.
I should not have been so quick to judge before the page was opened. You have restored,or should I say altered, my belief in communicating with unknown entities via a computer screen.Your work is witty and well written, and certainly cheered up what would have been an otherwise humdrum day.In fact,I enjoyed it so much it has inspired me to voluteer to have any willing contributor to request my friendship in the future via this extensive letter.
I must admit though, my feelings on finding your work were mixed.Of course there was the relief and the joy of finding works that were worth reading, but I did experience a little disappointment in being prevented from wielding my sword and giving an unsuspecting victim a good lashing with my tongue. ...Perhaps next time, future contributors to my hopefully expanding fan list be warned.Thank you Ed,P.G.
pgbedington:
Thank you for reading and commenting. For the compliment too. I think.
As as advisory: In my opinion, it is better to offer encouragement or say nothing. By saying nothing, people will get the message. In their own time. Their attempts at writing will be replaced by some other focus or activity to which they are better suited and will give them more in the way of enjoyment, fun and positive feedback. Making them happier and feel as though "Life is worth living!". Not an easy thing for some sensitive persons.
Thank you again.
Happier trails,
Ed Bradley.
I was watching some home videos with my family a few weeks ago. My grandpa, long dead, would sit by my grandma while she'd hold me as a baby and they'd play with me. Sometimes I see pictures of him in photo albums that we have... and sometimes I wonder what it would be like if he were still alive. I wonder what he'd smell like... or what habits he'd have... if he were a story teller, a scolder, or a tazzy-waz like my dad. I wish I can talk to him.
Your poem made me smile and laugh. Your rhthym is beautiful, and your thought very intellectual^_^. This poem reminds me of my Pop-pop. Thank you for such a great read!

Ghiradelli Girl:
Thank you for reading, commenting and the compliment. Glad you liked it. Bet your own Grampa would, also, have showered you with expensive chocolates. In keeping with your Booksie name.
Thank you again.
Happy trails,
Ed Bradley.
What I love most about this is the sing-songy saying of it. I always enjoy children's poems, and I really like this one! Excellent piece of work!
