The slightest touch

brings back those memories.

I remember well,

for I dare not forget.

Forgetting is just running away,

I am not the one to run,

not anymore...

That is one thing that you did teach me

over the years I dealt with you.

No matter how far I tried to run,

everything always caught up to me.

I can still trace the tears

as they traveled down my cheeks.

They traveled down the same paths

every day I sat alone

every night when I tried to sleep,

and when I awoke

I could still feel them sliding down my face.

I still fear the cold.

I still fear the heat.

The slightest touch may bring

the memories flashing back.

I still may feel like running,

but I am not afraid to say I won.

Which makes everything so much easier to deal with.
