When I was younger I knew a child

He viewed the world in a different way

Mostly everyone said his thoughts were wild

But me, I was stripped of words to say.

There was a certain air about him,

Something that really made you wonder,

Why are we here? Where is the joy?

What truly happens during the thunder?

He always looked for something deeper,

His ideas were different than anything you'd find

To me his thoughts painted a million pictures,

Unlike everyone else's closed door minds.

I know that not everything can be pretty

But this young boy always tried to defeat

Everything that caused all the people self pity

It was his determined duty to make the world sweet.

Once I watched him as he was sitting

He appeared to be lost in a deep train of thought

The look on face was much too fitting

He had a sense of being caught.

He was having a battle inside his head.

The weight of the world was on his shoulders.

He had nowhere to turn to, he spoke to me instead

Telling me I was lucky to be allowed to grow older.

I asked him what he meant, but he turned away.

He was ashamed of what was taking place

He had to live now to be killed someday

All the time hiding his tear stained face.

Although he was scared he smiled at me,

I smiled back not sure of what to say

He saw the world in a way I was unable to see

But this view for ever changed my ways.
