The Last Drop.
With her blood fresh on the breeze, I raced home to protect her. A hundred thoughts of devastation and sadness crossed my mind, and deep down I knew that wishful thinking and good fortune would be no help.
I grew fearful as the sweet mixture of death and blood filled the air. As the scent grew stronger, I began to realize that I wouldn’t make it in time. As sure as the thought crossed my mind, a new scent violated my nostrils, and invaded my sanity.
It was my daughter Serenity..... I knew I must do something, but my feet could carry me no faster. As I neared our home, I felt the presence vanish, and I only felt two lingering heartbeats struggling to stay alive.
And then they faded… one after the other.
When I entered my humble abode, I found them holding each other, both raped and broken. As the last drop of blood fell from her throat, I kissed her, and ran my fingers through her hair. I regret that I didn’t bury them. It’s all my fault.
