Quiet your mind just long enough
So that you're able to recall
The memories you once had of me
Breathe, breathe me in ... taste each one of my words b'cuz
They are a glimpse of what remains carved deep into my Soul
Haunting me & keeping me awake every night
I wish you knew how often I think of you
I'm always wondering what you're doin'
Or if you're lonely ... just like me too?
I scroll through photos on my phone
Searching for an appropriate picture
To attach to my latest prose
Immediately, I'm caught off guard
As my heart just skipped a beat
When I discovered an old picture of us
Quickly, I shuffle on by
My heart pretending I didn't see it
I thought over time I'd get over you
Truth be told I just can't get you outta my head
I cannot restrain myself & I scroll backwards
To look at the picture of us again
Remembering that moment & the memories we shared
I look into your eyes momentarily
The windows to your Heart & Soul
They continue to lure & seduce me
If those pictures could speak, your eyes are
Begging & pleading with me to call you, just one more time
They penetrate straight through to my heart
Piercing it like a well sharpened cutlass
This reality makes me tremble & shake
I'm human & not afraid to admit
That I still think of you every fk'n day
I'm still waiting for your answer though
Daily I still ask the question, Why?
The memories we shared, they consume my thoughts
It's the constant struggle I face
My day in, day out dilemma between my Head & Heart
B'cuz your touch once made my pulse react
As you'd coil your hand up & around my neck
Pulling my lips up to meet yours
I'm the first to admit I was intoxicated
By the thought that we'd be together forever
Were you just pretending that I'd be your wife
Flaunting me in front of your friends
Like I was important & I mattered
Am I now the void that you're missing?
B'cuz right now I have only one wish 'n desire
To allow myself time to heal; however
I continue to struggle each 'n every day
To cut the cord between us
That will finally allow me to be free
It's then that I notice that you're still wearing my ring
Honestly, I don't know how long or if I'll ever recover
I can't let go of our pictures & videos b'cuz they
Remind me that you can still make me feel
Even though we're 3,000 miles apart
You can still make me feel alright!
