It had been a shock for Rose to find herself face to face with the girl of her dreams, here, at an audition. She’d already tried for the role, and hadn’t got through, and she was clearly feeling it somewhat badly. The girl, the dream… the reality, had spoken softly. “You did well…”

A flush came now to her cheeks, as she dipped a low bow for the girl, her short cut brown-blonde hair mussed but still neat and out of her rich brown eyes. She spoke softly herself now. “Thank you…”

The girl had been called and moved away, a flustered shape dressed in black and white, golden-blonde hair shining under the lights and her gentle smile forever etched in Rose’s memory. Those blue-brown eyes would go on to captivate a nation, and make Andrew Lloyd-Webber seem an ass.

When the girl did indeed take a early exit it was Rose who cried, Rose who felt it hardest among her friends and who keenly felt a sense of loss… a loss so strong that watching the interview after, and hearing Fran mention a boyfriend, she whimpered aloud.
