First time ever I saw your face..

By Elizabeth Fox-Foster.

The woman at the desk was in a bad mood, her blue eyes flinty and blonde hair mussed. Her outfit, although slimming and gorgeous, was crumpled and the woman inside looked ready to go home.

The younger girl, aged 20, was nervous at first, then decided to hash it out, just smile through it. She approached the desk as her name was called, head coming up as rich hazel eyes rested on the woman’s face. “Hi…” She began confidently enough. “Today could be better couldn’t it?”

The woman, although surprised, agreed and laughed. She had beautiful bright blue eyes and rich blonde hair, light perfume filling the air, leaving the younger woman a little stunned. She still smiled and flirted easily, well aware the woman could well be straight.

The two didn’t talk much, just the usual job-hunting questions, the girl answered them all honestly if wryly and flashed the woman another smile as she left, silently praying she see the woman again the week after if she didn’t have a job… she paused then asked a quiet, puzzled “What’s your name anyway?”

“Maria…”

“See you next Monday Maria..” The girl smiled, leaving and silently thanking god. The woman’s name crossed her lips many times later that day.
