‘’Forget me not’’ you’d say,

passing me a flower.

I’d put the flower

in the vase on the windowsill,

in the sun,

and when it died,

I’d wake up to a new one,

to remind me you were there.

My mistake was never giving you one,

and one sided memories

are painful.

Especially when the only thing you have to wake up to,

is a dead flower.
