There is a nothing there.

It’s less than it was

I can feel the space you left

Cool hand resting on colder heart

Restless fingers expect it to fill--it never does

It, like I, will never be a whole again

It’s not broken. A part is just gone

The best part no the worst part no the only part

It, like I, will never be the way it was then.

Then there was warmth and life

The kind of happiness that seems intolerable

The kind of fullness that seems unsustainable

The kind of existence that seems destined for strife.

And so it was. And so it was.
