When I was 15, the doctor diagnosed me with FOP – a condition where muscles gradually turn into bone. At first I was terrified and believed there was nothing worth living for, but I eventually realised there’s nothing I could do and had to make the best of my life. I lived 31 years happily with my husband, but he was never aware of my condition until the date of my death – 19th November 2013.

The funeral was just like any other, only my mother’s speech included a long talk about my condition and how it broke her heart that I died at such a young age. Overall it was a very tear-jerking event but I didn’t shed a drop - after all, I was dead.

Afterwards, the coroner carried me, in my beautiful mahogany coffin, to the local cemetery, and began the ceremonial digging.
It didn’t take too long, and soon enough I was buried in the Earth, surrounded by families and friends of the living.

My mom said she’d visit every day to change the flowers. She always did work too hard and liked everything to be perfect.

But hang on… I’m still aware. I can’t move at all and I can’t even breathe, yet I can still think and my consciousness remains intact, all inside my inanimate body.
Now what?
