This poem was written during my down time teaching a group of 8th graders. It is important that we train up our children to become the pioneers of their generation.

The reality of things don’t seem so sweet,

The truth is my generation is yielding to defeat.

The number of people getting shot and killed

Outnumbers the number God has willed.

It’s not cool and gangsta to bag somebody’s son.

The sad truth is that what goes around does come around; and you might be the next one.

My hurt hearts for the innocent bystander;

The 3 year old child standing with his mother;

Or the old lady on her way to church.

Innocent blood because of a lurch.

A lurch for blood; a lurch for turf, a lurch for drugs, a lurch for money.

BANG! There goes someone’s honey.

A loving father of two, what’s his family to do?

I wish I had answers of why thugs kill. Why they murder then hide.

They hide their faces.

They shoot then they hide.

Hide then shoot.

Most of the time for the love of loot.

I wish the violence would decrease, so that the love can increase,

But the reality is things can’t be as sweet, because the truth is….my generation HAS yielded to defeat.
