Check Yes Juliet

‘Juliet… Juliet… check yes if you wanna go movies tonight XD~Travis.’

“How romantic” Stephanie scoffed at Juliet’s letter from her ‘loser’ boyfriend.

“Shut up” she growled at her snotty best friend.

“I don’t understand why your dating that loser anyway” Stephanie picked at her nails.

“I don’t understand why you’re my best friend” Juliet muttered under her breath. She would never let Steph hear her openly admit her resentment towards her because in a school where reputation and money is key, Steph holds it. One bad word to her, that she can hear at least, and you were down there next to ‘nose-picker boy’ in the social ladder. Juliet had seen it happen to Stephanie’s ex-bezzie Fiona last year. It’s not like Juliet cares about social rankings but friends were hard to make or keep at nose-picker status.

“What was that?” Steph asked.

“What?…” She’d heard hadn’t she? Cover up quick Juliet. “I said Travis is a really great guy.”

“Does your dad know your dating him yet?” another girl asked from across the lunch table. Yes he knows and is forcing me to dump Travis. Because I’m getting married to Jackson Roberts when I turn 18. Well technically her dad had sold her to the Robert’s family because over the last weeks, Juliet’s dad’s enterprise had been doing unusually well. Bastard. Juliet thought savagely, so what if he was ‘blood’. She would never dump Travis, she told him. Then the unthinkable happen he used… words like… ‘disinherit’ and… oh god… ‘cut off’… what else could she do?

“No” Juliet answered not wanting to go into the subject with anyone.

School would be over in 3...2...1... Ring, ring, ring. Juliet quickly flew through the crowds, dodging where necessary and skidding to a halt next to her locker. But she misjudged it, her whole world was tipping, then suddenly she felt a pair of strong arms catch her back and whole her securely around the waist. She looked up into the broad smile of Travis. He was so handsome, she thought, very rugged, not like her other boyfriends had been, bunch of prissy rich-types. Travis was a bad boy with a rebellious, all-over-the-placechestnut hairand hard brown eyes that always melted at the sight of Juliet. With her longginger hair, rosy cheeks, deep brown eyes and soft pink lips, he couldn’t do anything but love her. Yes, love. He knew he loved her. But for once in his life Travis was afraid, afraid to tell her he loved her. He was never afraid. Growing up in an abusive home with 2 older brothers in prison and an alcoholic dad with a pathetic druggie wife, no, ‘afraid’ didn’t register with Travis. Until the day he first saw her.

He affectionately remembered when she had first fallen into his arms, exactly like this last month, she was such a klutz, still is… and yet again her laces were untied. It was exactly the same picture… except for some reason, Juliet was not smiling or laughing, she just looked up at her saviour and sighed “Travis we need to talk.”

Travis swung her up gently, confusion written all over his face. “You can't come to the movie tonight, Jewel’s?”

She could’ve smiled at that, she loved him calling her Jewel’s it was his little pet name for her, but she keep her face unemotional. “No, but that's not it... I want to break up, us, you and me we’re not working out. I…we…we’re not meant to be ok?” she blurted out, her voice cracking slightly. She couldn’t bear to look at his face so she hid herself in her locker, tidying up random papers, waiting for an answer, a noise, something from her beloved.

Travis just stood there for a moment… what? He thought. Thing’s weren’t ‘working out’? Everything was fine! He loved her… This had to be a mistake. Something was wrong with her. “Juliet?” he asked. She ripped herself out of her locker to look him directly in the eyes, tortured solemn brown eyes… she wanted to look away, but no, as ever, she couldn’t. They stared intently into each other’s eye for a few moments. Oblivious of anything but each other. “Jewel’s your joking right?” he asked finally. His voice barely above a whisper.

“NO. Goodbye Travis.” She said, almost angrily. But at what? Her father? Herself? Travis’s lack of fight for her… did her not love her? Care for her at all? Juliet didn’t wait for an answer, she turned and hurried off down the corridor. Tear’s flaming up in her eyes and splashing softly on the ground as she disappeared, leaving Travis in a hallway filled with indifferent bystanders.

Travis was in shock, all afternoon passed in a daze to him. Drew, Travis’s best friend, slapped him on the back to wake him up for band practice. “Ow!” Travis punched Drew on the arm. “Oi man, you’re the one whose losin’ it!” Drew complained “what’s up? Your like a zombie today?”

“Juliet dumped me.” Travis stated dully.

“What!?” Drew looked at his mate in shock. Him and his new chick, Jewel’s he called her, were like that *crosses two fingers together*. “What happened man?” Drew sat and Travis talked. It was over quickly.

“They’re got to be a reason…” Drew wonder out loud and then he got up. “Well!? What are you doing here? Go get her. Talk to her. Come on man, if your so in loovvve as you say you are, go and fucking well find out why she’s dumped yourfugley ass now!” Drew shouted dramatically at Travis. Breaking through Travis’s shock and into his tiger-like personality.

“Thanks man” Travis called back, as he got in his old, white, 1987 Chevytruck and driving off to Juliet’s house.

Juliet was sniffing back her tear and wiping her eyes clear of them but they just kept coming. How could she have been so mean? She’d sounded so uncaring when she’d told Travis goodbye. God, she hated her father so much now. And she hated herself for giving in. Who care’s if I don’t get any more money? I love Travis! But… the way he’d just let her go like that. That wasn’t her Travis, her’s would’ve grabbed her in his strong arms and pronounced his love for her and they would’ve kissed but no… Maybe Travis didn’t even give a damn about her after all… *tap* what was that? Juliet looked around her room curiously… *tap* it’s coming from the window she decided and walked over to her window.

She slept in a room looking out at the front of the house to the road and the sidewalk. It was dripping rain outside. She looked around curiously before opening her window and spotting a figure, two floors down, on the ground was waving his hands vigorously at her. His hair looked gel down and combed as if he were going to church.

“Travis” Juliet called down in a soft voice when she opened the window. Travis’s face lit up in the darkness and he dropped the rest of the stones in his hand and called up to her. “Jewel’s come down here.”

“No” she answered stubbornly. “What are you doing here?” And before he could tell her to come down and see him again she added quickly “just tell me now” as if reading his mind.

“Why did you dump me?” he asked straight out.

“I told you… you, me, it’s just… a no” she said.

“No, there’s a reason. What is it?” He called out again.

She sighed… “I’m engaged” she said softly, but he could still hear her tinkling voice.

“Engaged?” He asked astonished, hurt, angry, he didn’t know what to feel.

“Well, my dad’s forcing me to marry… I have to stop seeing you or else he…”

“What?” Travis asked indignantly.

“He’ll cut me off” she almost whispered again. It sounded so stupid out loud and Travis proved it by scoffing. “So that’s why you’re dumped me? Because daddy’s little princess would get cut off?” he mocked her. But immediately regretted it after because she looked angry and her eye’s began to sting again. “Look, no baby, I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just, I didn’t think you cared about that stuff.”

“Well I do. Now if that’s all…” Juliet backed away from her window.

“NO! WAIT!” Travis almost shouted. Juliet’s head popped out again, looking annoyed “ssshhh” she shushed him. “shut up, you want my dad to find you. He’ll kill you!” She warned. Travis didn’t doubt that. Her dad was a tight-ass with a gun, a bad combination when mixed with a daughter and troublesome boyfriend. But Travis wasn’t concerned by anything but the way she’d said that just now, he saw it in her dark-brown eyes through the darkness and the rain. She still cared about him. It was now or never for him, he had to tell her.

“Jewels.” He said. Juliet’s eyes focused onto his own brown ones. “I love you” he said. The word’s coming out strong and full of truth. Juliet’s eyes widened a fraction before she whispered “I love you too.” Both hearts soaring together now. All Travis wanted to do now was kiss her, hold her, express his love for her right then and there but there was a slight problem. Infact a couple, one physical, the other parental.

“What do we do?” Juliet whispered into the darkness. She was going to have to get married on her 18th birthday and she was in love with Travis and Travis was in love with her.

Travis’s idea came to him almost immediately “run away with me!” he exclaimed in a whispered to Juliet.

“What?” she almost giggled at the idea but Travis’s face was so serious. She listened to him: “you know what my home life is like and your dad isn’t just going to let you back out of this is he?” He asked. Juliet shook her head. “So… lets run away tonight. I have my car!” He pointed to his car, which was just out of reach of the street light’s orange glow.

She hesitated “what about money?” she asked but then mentally hit herself in the head. She had her credit cards with a quick withdrawal system, $13,000 cash could be her’s within 20 minutes of stepping into a bank. “Yes” she whispered. “ Yes, I’m coming, one minute. Go to the back door” she directed and gently closed her window. She ran around her room, getting together a suitcase of clothes and random bit. She left her phone on her vanity.

Quietly, she picked up her case and tiptoed downstairs… through the main hall and the kitchen, towards the back door. She found the house keys quickly and used them in the lock... They’re was no click… they didn’t work?! Travis was on the other side of the door, looking in frantically. She looked at him through the blurred glass and whispered to him “the keys don’t work!” Travis suddenly bend down by the key hole and within minutes something in the door clicked. The door swung open to relieve a kneeling Travis. He chuckled and said “what can I say? Camp taught me alo-” but he didn’t finish because Juliet launched herself at him, pushing them both to the floor. But neither minded because they were locked in a furious passionate kiss. They couldn’t get enough of each other, it was like they hadn’t seen each other in millenniums and now, finally reunited, it was hard to put themselves back into the reality of lying on the ground in the pouring rain.

Juliet pulled her face back from his and smiled at him “I love you.” She could say that enough and both were joyful to hear it.

“I love you too, Jewels. When we find a place to stay, remind me to marry you.” She gasped. He just proposed!

“Yes… yes…” kiss “I do… I do… god, Travis I love you… so much” she said between kisses. He chuckled and held her tightly against him but it was only a matter of time before they’d get carried away by this position.

Juliet stumbled to her feet and brought her case outside. She shut the door quietly, she wasn’t going to risk her parents waking up for any noise.

In the car Juliet smelt the familiar smells of smoke and her favourite cologne on Travis. The car was cold and it didn’t help that Juliet was wet too. But not as wet as Travis when he got in. She giggled at his drowned-dog look and at his suitable curious puppy expression. She kissed him again softly on the lips. “Yum” she muttered. He laughed and turned the car on. Heat flooded through it. The radio blasted for a few seconds before Travis quickly turned it off.

“So we stop in the next town to get money?” He asked, he knew how much she had in her bank account.

“Yeah, but don’t we need to go back to your place first?” He needed more clothes too, Juliet thought worriedly.

“I’m already packed, it’s in the trunk with your’s.” He shrugged and then when on to explain. “I’ve been packed since last year to leave my parent’s when I turned 18.” Which was in January Juliet thought puzzled. “But then I met you and I couldn’t leave.” Travis kissed her again. She melted into his arms and he drove, slowly at first, more quietly so as not to disturb Juliet’s sleeping ex-neighbours. He sped up as they got further and further away. Juliet wasn’t worried by his speed, he was a superb driver and so confident, just like he is in everything he does. She kissed him gentle on the cheek then and he smiled but kept his eyes on the road.

“It’s just you and me now baby” Travis said. Although his face was turned, Juliet could see the dazing smile she loved.

“Forever will be you and me” Juliet smiled, she liked that idea.
