I loved you then, I love you now, I love you still, I always have, and I always will.

I want you to know that

I would never make you a promise that I know I couldn’t keep.

I vowed to love and to cherish, till death do us part;

For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness, and in health—

I made the only promise I knew I could ever keep.

Because Death can part a husband from his wife,

I promised to love you for the rest of my life.

I will always remember that

I gave you my hand to have.

You gave me your hand to hold.

I will never let go of you, because you were the best of me.

I want you to know that

I am constantly reminded of you.

When I listen to that answering machine, I hear your voice;

When I watch old home videos and photographs, I see your face;

When I scroll through my text messages, I read all our past conversations;

You’re here with me in spirit.

The truth is that

You’re gone.

I could never say that

I am happy;

Because the truth is

I am miserable;

You will never hear me say that

Loving you was easy.

It’s true that

It’s better to have loved and lost than not have loved at all;

It’s way better to love and not lose that love at all;

I loved you, and I lost you.

I’d be in denial if I didn’t say that

I wasn’t angry with God.

Despite everything that has happened, believe me when I say

I love you, forever and always.

Only God knows why you left me when you did.

Death came and took you from me, and

I remember crying, trying to bargain with Death to give you more time, but

Death makes no bargains.

I miss you.

With each passing day,

I continue to hold on to our memories.

I’ve loved, and I’ve lost.

You lived, and you loved—

You lived a life full of love.

I have come to accept that

Because I’m alive, I can still love you.

Where there is life, there is love.
