Tears
fall,
each one more precious
than all the diamonds in Elysium,
fall
slow,
caught in midair—
plummet—land without a sound.
Moon
wanes,
pale silver
fades into the shivering waters;
slow,
soft,
footsteps whisper
silently against the ground.

Soft,
sad,
troubled face,
hardened by those shreds of steel;
heart
burns,
remembering,
tortured by the pain of life.
What
now—
far from home,
doesn’t even know his name—
now,
feel,
that welcomed pain
slashes through him like a knife.

Cast
out,
fell from the stars,
hit the earth with wings outspread.
Eyes
raised,
turned upward,
what new world that he has found?
Raised
up,
alone in darkness,
shadows hiding whispered lies.
Pounding
heart,
he staggers up
to his feet and looks around.

Why
here,
lost, afraid?
Realization strikes him hard—
here,
survive,
cold harsh world
made of icy fire and stone.
Broken
chains,
angry, shattered,
lie askew about his feet,
knuckles
white
in fisted hands
gleam silver in the dark, alone.

White
cloak,
dark with blood,
stains a pale and withered shell.
Wide
eyes
take it in,
staring into empty black,
cautious,
roving,
desperately,
looking for a place to hide.
Roving
wanderer,
have you come
looking for the peace you lack?

Wandering
stranger,
face your doom;
your weary days have just begun.
In ice
and flame,
it’s different here
than where you once had called your own.
Lost
faith,
splintered hopes,
you put your trust in what you knew—
faith
won,
betrayed you well,
and left you here to die alone.
