All three children I wrote about I had encountered in one day, within hours of each other. This poem speaks for itself.

I did not see until his red ball bounced away from him, and the little boy ran for it laughing in delight.

I did not see until I heard, "Hi!" from the little boy in the car next to me, he was smiling and waving at me.

I did not see until her little pink tongue stuck out from between white teeth and a smile, the little girl in the grocery store.

I did not see freedom, truth or happiness until these children showed me what I had forgotten.

So, I bought a red ball, threw it as hard as I could and ran after it.

I waved and said hi to the woman in the car next to me at the stoplight.

I stuck my tongue out at my friend when we were shopping.

Only then did I finally see.
