An Benton, Ill., man was sentenced to 15 years in prison, fined $30,000 and must register as a sex offender after he was found guilty of third-degree criminal sexual conduct for having sex with a 15-year-old girl last December.

Christopher John Rowe, 38 at the time of the crime, must register as a predatory sex offender, enter the sex offender treatment program and is denied access to the Internet until it is approved by his therapist.

Rowe was employed as a truck driver when met the victim in an online dating site, according to court documents. The girl told Rowe that she was a 19-year-old orphan without an identity and asked to be picked up at an Osceola, Wis., Subway Restaurant.

The girl was reported as a runaway to authorities on Dec. 8, 2011. Authorities tracked Rowe’s truck by the vehicle’s GPS unit and officers from the Minnesota State Patrol, Hudson, Wis., Police Department and St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office stopped Rowe on Interstate 94 in Hudson.

The girl told officers that she and Rowe stopped overnight at the I-94 rest area in West Lakeland Township, where she admitted having sex with Rowe. The girl reported that Rowe asked her a couple of times if she was really 19 and offered to take her back to his home in Kentucky.
