“Are you cold?” he asked her.
She could see the outline of his body lying sideways next to her in his bed. For the night it was their bed, and for the few short days she would be with him. He already had one arm around her, his bare chest against the sweater he lent her to wear for the night. She could feel the heat from his body on her own through the sweater and how it penetrated deep into her skin.
“I am,” she whispered in return, even though she was not that cold. He put his other arm around her and pulled her in to face him until their bodies were lined up perfectly in one another. Never had she imagined her body would fit so well into his, or anyone’s for that matter. She smiled, even though it was too dark in his basement bedroom for him to see it. He was squeezing her tightly and wrapping his legs in with her own. She buried her smile into his neck and he kissed her head.
“There, that’s better,” he said, and they fell silent and sleepy again.
