Voices and laughter of Callie's family filled the air. She walked through the sand towards the clear water. Callie let a wave wash over her bare feet. The water was warm.
Callie turned to look at her family. They were all visiting for a house warming party. She had just bought this house after lucking out in the lottery. After the house, she bought her first brand new car, nice furniture, and share a couple hundred thousand with her closest family members. Her young neices and nephews were building sandcastles near the waters edge. Teen cusins ran around with squirt guns, and all the adults were talking as they lay under beach umbrellas.
She turned back to the water and stepped in. Callie walked into the ocean until it was up to her belly button. Suddenly it began to grow dark, though it was only just past three in the afternoon. Callie looked at the sky as dark grey clouds rushed in front of the sun. After a moment she looked back to the ocean. The clouds had turned the water black. Callie stared out over the waves. She realized that all but the ocean was silent.
Callie sun around, seeing no one on the beach. She didn't see anyone inside either. She began to panic, making a half circle in the water to check for anyone. There was no one. She wanted out of the water and began stepped slowly backward. She was about to turn, but something grabbed both of her legs. Callie screamed, feeling fingernails dig into her calves. She tried desperately to pull away, but instead felt a strong tug back.
Her legs were tugged again, this time it ripped her feet right out from under her. She fell backward into the water. Callie struggled to get her head above water, but felt herself being dragged down deeper.
She kicked at the humanlike hands but they gripped her harder. Callie gasped in water as she felt the nails begin breaking the skin. Her lungs filled with water and she looked down, the water burning her eyes. All was black, all but two white pupiless eyes staring back at her.
