Her name was Audrey, and she was beautiful

A child with dark hair and milky skin

With emeralds for eyes

and a smile that personified happiness

Her presense was innocence wrapped up in a bow

She had dreams, she longed to sing

A little voice that was never silenced by anyone.

Anyone, except yours truly.

The river and I, we silenced her spirit

We freed her soul

It wasn't my intention, no, not at all

I fell asleep, and she answered the water's call.

I arose, no child beside me

I panicked and ran, hysterically screaming.

I saw her floating down the damned river

Her dark hair flowing in the water.

Though I dived in

Though I tried with all my might to save her

Her body had turned cold

Her emeralds weren't shining

She wouldn't answer my pleas.

I held her close to my heart

I tried to imagine a heartbeat that wasn't there.

For a moment, I thought I even heard her breathing

But it was nothing but the river whispering her name.

Her name was Audrey, and she was cold

Her name was Audrey, and she was beautiful
