Downed And Anchored

Poem by: Empyre

Summary

The downfall of a megalomaniac. And how the regret of all his wrongdoings took their toll, to the point where he let the guilt devour him entirely, as the soul of his humanity slowly decayed.

Using pinching fingers to properly enunciate apologies from a torn out tongue,
that was too stubborn to speak condolences on its own accord,
chances for forgiveness dries as asking for redemption can no longer be sung.
I have firmly held the barbarous blade of a double-edged sword.
And like a claymore swung,
it's impracticable to erase things I've done.
Slates cannot be wiped clean when bleeding from wounded hands.
There's no going back.
I've drowned in my shallow self.
Downed and anchored at the bottom of my pity,
guilt-bloated lungs balloon.
Downed and anchored from an emotional typhoon,
I've lost every grain of virility.
However egotistical,
megalomaniacs can regret.
Beyond hysterical.
Thrashing. Shaping waves. Desperate.
Too little too late.
Unanswered; remorse goes unsaid.
Downed and anchored.
Decency submerged, succumbed, dead.
I am not adored after all.
Too little too late.
Downed and anchored.
Rapid cellular breakdown wafts myputrescence.
In moments I am encircled by scavengers and fish.
Although I speak metaphorically,
this does not stop them from taking me piece by piece.
Water-logged with chunks of flesh waving off my bones
like sombre flags of ruefulness, creatures finally cease.
As I witness my reflection in a hundred swimming eyes,
my soul waving at me so lethargically,
I see how ugly I really am.
Downed and anchored.
My struggle is now a situation preferred.
Ignorance was bliss.
Arrogance will tell you this.
Once elated,
now I'm a gentleman's corpse
catering to a soul outdated.
Drowned in my shallow self,
too deep for redemption to be sung,
a small fish swims away with my tongue.
I am downed.
I am anchored.
I am right where I belong.
