Feeling trapped...for a very, very long time. And getting help.
For a dear friend.

The Princess in the steel tower
Busy and alone.
No one sees her struggles
Even she deems them too small.
Trapped in the steel tower
No key to unlock the door.
Her cries remain silent inside
Buried somewhere below.

It is said before the tower
She found her paramour
The one who fires her dreams at night
The one who could never make her happy.
She found him, obscure and secret.
He sang in a cloistered cove.
She couldn’t share her dream of him;
He’s buried somewhere below.

The Princess in the steel tower
Cries out for release.
Her deep eyes hid the shadows
Of things unseen and past.
She longed to see her champion.
She longed to learn at his feet.
She was attacked and beaten
Her heart could take no more.
To feel no pain
To hear no sound
But the key unlocking the door.

Her fingers touch the handle,
Hesitant and frail.
Freedom is but time away.
The Princess at the crossroads
It makes no sense to keep it
Buried somewhere below.
