This story is a short narrative I had to write for my English class and publish. It is a fictional battle scene narrative. I'm still learning to improve, but hope you enjoy it anyways.

Nightmare

I laid completely still in the snow- not daring to even breath. I could hear the soft crunch of horse’s hooves stepping in the fresh snow coming closer and closer. Now let’s start from a previous time that day where I was thinking of the events that happened a few years.
Roy and I have been rebels for ten years. I remembered. We had been fiercely fighting against the Xenon Empire, who were the self made dictators of the area crushing all who opposed them. They had wiped out the Terra Empire’s main army in 235 A.D.  A few escaped and made the rebel alliance that Roy and I joined at fifteen years old. Roy and I, with a group of others, had been waiting days for the Xenon General Tyberzan who was coming through a pass in the mountains that we are now ready to ambush.  If we succeed in capturing him it could help decide the fate of the war.
“How much longer do you think they will be?” Roy asked me impatiently for the fifth time that minute.
“About twelve seconds less since you last asked,” I responded with a bit more heat than I meant to.  Roy and I have been friends since childhood, but he could really annoy the devil out of me from time to time.
Sensing my irritation Roy tried changing the subject.
“What is the game plan when they come by?” Roy asked me.
“I plan to step out in front of them,” I said sarcastically.
“What are you crazy?!” Roy exclaimed intensely.
“I’m joking; we need the element of surprise for this attack,” I responded mockingly. Suddenly one of the scouts came madly running up the pass completely out of breath.
“Tyberzan and his escort are almost here,” the man excitedly said. At this news we all scattered into the snow covered trees.  I laid completely still in the snow- not daring to even breath. I could hear the soft crunch of horse’s hooves stepping in the fresh snow coming closer. Suddenly I could see the lead horse then the rest came around the bend in the pass. The horses looked mangy and beaten. I felt sad for the poor things but their riders would soon pay. I watched as our plan went in to action as hidden archers shot down the front guards. Before they hit the ground, I charged forward knocking Tyberzan off his horse. I quickly drew my sword and turned around to strike him, but to my amazement Tyberzan was up and attacking with astonishing speed. I tried to madly block his attacks but Tyberzan only increased his attacking speed and no one could help me because they were all fighting other men. I could feel terror’s cold grasp on my heart as I realized that I was fighting a man much more skilled than I. I was no longer trying to catch Tyberzan; I was fighting for my life.  I lunged forward but he was much faster and moved to one side quickly dashing forward slashing at my side. I barely had time to block the blade. To my amazement he was already starting another lunging attack at my heart. He was moving too quick for me to stop!!!
“NOOOO!!!!!” I screamed as I awoke suddenly.
“It… it was just a dream,” I said relieved.
“No more TV before bed.” I decided as I got ready for work.
“Well another day to get through.” I said tiredly. I had never been so relieved to live a normal life.
