Change

Delicate winds swirl through the trees
which reveals that the leaves are changing color.
From green to yellow to brown,
there could never be a more beautiful decay.

I hear little children’s jubilant laughter
echoing through the empty streets.
Memories of my childhood that now seem distant
come flowing back like a graceful river.

It seems as if the inevitable changing of leaves
represents a changing in our lives,
a symbol of yet another year passing.
Lost years slipping through our willing hands.

I can taste the sweet pumpkin pie
sliding down my eager throat
and the scent of something baking
engulfs my nostrils as I smile enthusiastically.

Although time passes quick as lighting,
humble and exquisite recollections
make our not-so-simple lives seem, well,
simple.
