The Amazon Kindle is an ebook reader. I was skeptical at first about it but have grown to love the device. The best thing - I can download Booksie eBooks and read them on the device. It's pretty cool. I also get the newspaper delivered every morning.
The device does take some getting use to. At first, reading from a screen seems a bit strange but after a few minutes, I found myself absorbed in the writing and forgetting that it was a screen. The screen itself uses e-ink technology, which provides a glare-free surface. Reading from the Kindle is much more comfortable than reading from your computer or from an iPhone. The screen size is also more suited to reading than an iPhone or other mobil devices and is the approximate size of a paperback.
The Kindle comes with an always-on wireless connection which lets you shop from Amazon and download books in seconds. The connection also allows you to download newspapers. Every morning, the latest edition of the New York Times appears on my Kindle. You do have to pay for these subscriptions though so users will have to decide between the convenience and the cost.
Downloading Books from Booksie and Elsewhere
The best thing about the Kindle is that you can load it with free books from Booksie and other online sites.
Amazon just released a new version of the device and while it's pretty expensive at $350 bucks, prices will come down. This is the future of reading and publishing.
Below is a short video that reviews the new Kindle.
Amazon has also lined up a promotion with Stephen Kind. Kindle buyers can download a new novella from King that is available only on the Kindle. The novella, called UR, is about a man who receives a Kindle and how it changes his life - knowing King it's not for the better. The novells costs $2.99 to purchase.
