A thought I had as I was writing a paper.

I was writing a paper for one of my classes, and I decided to write it about women who are serial killers. This made me start thinking.

It never really occurred to me how depraved we humans can be, and how...evil we can act towards other humans.
It's practically beyond comprehension. To think that someone you know, someone close to you, can be a soulless killer or a depraved sexual predator is almost beyond belief.

Of course we can all suspect the strange homeless man we see walking down the road at night. Why should we not suspect him of being a deviant? But consider this. Most criminals who are serial killers, who are successful serial killers, are highly intelligent. They have to be, in order to get away with their crimes.

Now I want you to do something. Think of all the highly intelligent people you know. Think of all the times you've been struck by something odd that they said or did. Now think how many times you've been in a situation where you could have been compromised by that person. Scary isn't it?

That's not to say that all intelligent people are killers, far from it. But those who are killers? Most people don't suspect them until it's too late. Now here's another thought. When you were thinking, how many of the people you were thinking of were women? Not many, I'll wager. Not surprising, as most women who kill aren't particularly
violent or spectacular about it. Which is why they get away with it for far longer than men do. And why they can kill more people. And why they are infinitely more frightening.
