I plopped into bed. My dog standing next to me walking around the bed, looking for the perfect place to rest. She found the right stop. She plopped down a held her head up proudly. She yawned and licked her paws, but only to draw more attention to herself.
I closed my eyes. I was not sleeping, nor was I really tired. But it was already midnight, and I had to go to bed. I looked out the window. I could see the trees against the gray clouds. I know that on a cloudy night the clouds could carry the light all the way from New York City and shine it down harder than the moon ever could. With it so light out, I would never be able to sleep. I kept looking outside. It looked as though dawn could come any second, and the sky would rapidly start filling with orange, yellow, white light. It never came though.
Presently I was growing more relaxed. Water started to trickle into my room, but I did nothing about it, I did not even get up. I let it run in; wetting all the clothes I had left on the floor and the suitcase from my trip the week before. It enclosed my heater, but it did not break, it still heated the water around me. I was lying on a wet bed and finally the warm water caressed my body and sunk into it. I was still breathing, and everything in my room was still there. I began to swim. I went under every table, I went up to the ceiling, I went where I could not easily get without the warm liquid.
And then the walls were gone. There was nothing but a vast blue space above me, and to the sides of me. I didn’t know where to go. If I stayed where I was, I’d be in my room when it comes back. But, what if my room has gone somewhere else? I would have to swim and find it. Where is my dog?
The water was still warm, and I wanted to lie down, for now I was tired. I could lie down. And I would fall asleep. I would not even need my sheets, since the water was so warm. I decided though now to fall asleep. I wanted to know where the light was coming from. I didn’t see any sun above the surface.  I did not even see the surface.
So I swam. I swam up and up and still got no where. I rested and I began to sink down and down so slowly with the warm liquid wrapping around my body as a drifted down. But then something wrong happened. I felt a large weight against me. Something was pushing me down. And I hit the ocean floor with a thud. I couldn’t breath. Whatever had pushed me down was now on my back, and my face was in the silky sand. I tried flinging my arms around to get it off of me. But I couldn’t see it, and I couldn’t feel anything around me but sand.
And then WOOSH! I was back in my bed. My dog was walking away from me to the other side of the bed. I looked outside. The trees still looked black against the clouds. But then, the sun appeared.
