My writing teacher asked us to write something about when we can't sleep. I have insomnia, so the rest came naturally.
Sorry about the audio; There were two slip-ups and one chair squeak. Bear in mind this is my first recording and my first published work, so it's not the best and I'll come out and say that now.

11:00 PM -

I lay down in my bed. Tick tock, seconds whisk away. Tick tock, seconds turn to minutes. Hours.

12:30 AM -

Days. It's been days. When I look at the clock, it lies.  Why do you lie, clock? I've been laying in this prison cell for days. Weeks. Trapped here with only my thoughts for company. Oh thoughts, why do you plague me?

1:45 AM -

I wonder what a man across the world is doing. He probably slept well. He got in his car, drove to work, and is now working diligently to support his family.

What am I doing?

Let me sleep you devil of a mind, let me sleep!

8:30 AM -

This is it. This is all I can take. In just one half of an hour, I have people to see, places to go, things to do. I must sleep somehow. The wall understands my problems. She knows how to cure my illness. She raps my head once. With a thud nothing has changed. She knocks on my head a second time. I can feel the redness on my face, but still to no avail. She touches my head a third time. Finally, blissful peace.

A silence washes over my mind, an eerie fog of calm blankets my thoughts. Good night world, I will see you in fifteen minutes.
