Love Before First Sight

by Eric W

Love at first sight is said to only be in stories
Only belong to princesses and knights in shining armor
She felt love before first sight
A new kind of love
Different from that first kiss she experienced
Or that boy that held her every night
Different from warm hand of her mother that brushed her hair as a youth
This new love came from deep inside her
A place she had only read about
Each day she felt her love grow
It fluttered inside her
Almost matching her own heartbeat
As time passed she grew with anticipation
Her body moving without effort
She can feel the trembling inside her
She’s been holding onto this love for too long
Its time for her to let go
She cries
Her pain is nearly unbearable
She doesn’t want to let it go
But time has taken its toll
She knows she must push through it
And in one brief second
She finds her new love
Its love before first sight
She holds her new love to her chest
She whispers to her newborn, "I love you"
Then they close their eyes to rest.
