LEND ME A PAGE....

.....Lend me a page from your oldest diary,

When you wrote of your farm days and plays,

Where the cows had names
When times were filled with laughter,

The smell of fresh bread and coal stoves were part of a new day.

You played for hours and days, built clay figures and drank from the clear water springs,

The smell of Oil Lamps Burning for your late night

Gatherings, sisters, blankets and hot milk on the floor listening to the top 20 music countdown

On Springbok Radio,

Story telling came to an end with the burning out of a candle,

where the wax fragrance filled the farmhouse and anounced bed time..

You realise the value of a grandparent, a wrinkled face looking at childhood eyes with love,

a trembling hand removing thorns, a kind word that would echo throughout your adult life.

Take my page and hang it out to dry in the sun,
Leave it overnight and let the moon and stars print my name
How can I forget?
Even with your page in my diary, my memories belong
To my Soul.......
.

But your story, is part of me, a life I cherish with you...........
