A poem I wrote for school; I had to call it "The Glass Castle" but I could express my own interpretation of it. I had just broken up with my girlfriend the day it was assigned, and we got back together the next day, shortly before I wrote this, so naturally, I had the topic of love still fresh in my head.

The Glass Castle

Love is like a Castle of Glass
So hard to build right
So hard to make perfect
When it’s pure it shines so brightly
Glistening in the light
Of happiness and joy
Life is like slinger of stones
Bombarding the glass
‘Til it finally breaks
The Glass Castle of Love comes crashing down
Jagged edges pierce hearts
Of lovers within
The vicious shards of pointed Glass
No longer shine bright
No longer seem happy
Imperfect balance captures no sun
But reflects something still:
The small light of hope
Suddenly growing it meets lovers’ eyes
In spite of their wounds
They manage to rise
The Castle rebuilds better than before
Re-enforced with iron
The steel brace of compromise
The lovers embrace; a new joy starts
They begin to mend their broken hearts.
