“What were you two talking about, Jamie?”
When he said my name I couldn't help the small pleasurous tremble I felt inch its way up my spine. Warmth spread throughout my entire body, like a small fire kindled deep inside my being, steadily growing larger, hotter. My mind went blank and all I wanted to do was tell him exactly what he wanted to know. Oh, God, how I wanted- needed- to tell him. I squeezed my eyes shut and mentally shook myself out of the trance I had been put under. When I opened them again I felt my senses returning like a rush of cold water, helping me to think better. “Drop dead,” I growled once I found my voice again.
He stared for a moment, and I was pleased to see a mixture of confusion and disbelief on his face. It was gone as quickly as it had come. “Hm.” He circled around me, and I was able to feel his eyes sliding up and down my body like a slippery snake. “There's something about you, miss Brooks, which I don't like.”
“Everything about you, Mr. Garson, is something I don't like,” I shot back hotly.
