I sit up late at night listening to the rain

all is silent

except for my cat who jumps on the window

he is watching the raindrops

and perhaps thinking about escaping into the dark night

I have not let him out of the front door

as many cars pass by this street

and I don't want him to become dead meat

splattered by a renault clio

or an old rusty citroen

so there he sits

watching the raindrops

thinking about life outside

but he is allowed out into the back garden

and he climbs the walls

and goes next door I think

He is nocturnal

or so they say

and he is wondering why I'm here

am I tresspassing on his day

Not at all

but I will sneek a peek

and take a look at him

before I go to bed

as I wander what he's doing

before I climb the stairs

and rest my weary head
