i saw her. the moonlight shone on her pink hair like a torch, the wind made it billow out behind her like a cape. she reached behind her, pulling it back and tying it up in a ponytail. it didn't look right at a formal party. and just like before, she didn't care if it didn't fit in with the atmosphere. she still wore the necklace i gave her, the gem glinting in the light. i remember when i gave it to her, she'd flung herself at me and had planted kisses all over my face. the short black dress she had on showed off the flower tattoo on her thigh that i used to trace as 5:42am. she kept pulling it down to cover herself up, constantly paranoid it would ride up too far. she looked smaller than i remembered and i considered going over to her; teasing her about it, kissing her, loving her. i excused myself from the group of people i was stuck talking to, discussing the latest political problems that i had no care for. i pardoned myself and headed straight for her. people passed in front of me, blocking my view of her. i was scared that if they passed me, i'd glance back and she wouldn't be there anymore. eventually, finally, i reached her (she was smaller, i was sure of it) and smiled softly. \"hello lena, its been such a long time.\" wow, my voice had decided to work, at last. she smiled widely and hugged me tightly. oh god, she smelled so good. like lemons and burnt wood, i was so used to it. \"hello tom, it has indeed, how've you been?\" she replied in that magical voice of hers, the one that sounded like cherubs were singing. the one that sounded like a baby's first laugh, beautiful. before i could open my mouth, a tall blonde man appeared at her side. his chiseled features looked so dangerous beside her soft, heart shaped face. \"lena, we have to go. i trust you have your things?\" he murmured in a deep voice, it made me shiver to the core. \"oh geoffrey! you frightened me, of course i have.\" she giggled and put her hand over his, the one that rests on her shoulder. she turned to me. \"tom, it was wonderful to see you again. maybe soon we can catch up for longer, i'll see you soon okay?\" she smiled and bustled away. this was ridiculous. i'd been in love with this woman since 6th grade and i was about to let her walk out of my life? well, what could i do? i was a simple waiter and she was a duchess-to-be. i couldn't do anything.

he pronounced it 'len-a' its 'lean-a'
