Kodiak Miller
Joyous

Awake! Cage unlocked and out the door,
Leap with faith and fall to the floor.
Skittering paws shooting across carpet,
Giddy as small children.

Shouts of surprise from humans in the hall,
They’ve escaped, their AWOL.
Between legs and avoiding shoes,
Blast out a side passage into the kitchen,
Unknown tastes and smells bombard the nose,
Over stimulated!

The final leg of the journey,
They rush forward driven by the aching need for it,
They meet resistance at the door,
A human of the fatter variety,
Without pause,
Through the legs,
Out the door into the white earth,
Into the sunlight,
Intensified by the snow in an unlikely form of synergy,
With love for their world,
The world full of endless possibilities.
