Why Occupy

I can see you

Mr. Banker

Snug in your irony tower

Waving banknotes to seduce me

But you're too high up for me to see

The numbers on the notes you're waving

But I bet they’re not as large

As the ones you owe in tax

Send in the clowns

With their floppy batons and rubber bullets

Their Keystone cars and cartoon gas

Maybe they'll make us cry with laughter

I can see you

Politician

Smug in your scoundrels' refuge

Glad handing from a distance

But you're too far away for me to reach

And shake the hand you're offering

Sticky with sweat but not

I think from honest work

Send in the clowns

With their floppy batons and rubber bullets

Their Keystone cars and cartoon gas

Maybe they'll make us cry with laughter

I can see you

Middle England

Squeezed in your semi castles

Drinking outrage from besieged cups

But you’re too afraid to let me in

And prise that paper from your fingers

Dirty with newsprint but not

I think the honest truth

Send in the clowns

With their floppy batons and rubber bullets

Their Keystone cars and cartoon gas

Maybe they'll make us cry with slaughter
