Only then will I rest

Is it what I do that decides

How I am or may be

I am depicted only as I'm seen

through dark eyes

squinted under the blaze

of stereotypes and statements

The lines of truth are blurred

smeared and dismayed

Not clear but fuzzy along

the dashed lines of guides

and rules and parentals

Only when I am seen

as who I am

who I aspire to be

will I rest at the feet

of those who are above me

and let those below me

rest at mine
