A young girl leans over the water

Of a clear blue Summer pond

And stares down at a face

In the afternoon light

That she does not recognize.

Not the curve of her cheek nor

The tilt of her brow look as they had before

And soft hands shake as they touch flesh

To confirm that it belongs to her.

Eyes widen as skin touches skin

And a new feeling rises from within

As she realizes the new life she is living in

And that she will never be alone.

Years pass as the young girl grows

Into a woman with

The knowledge that she knows

About Life and its changes

From one phase to another.

Now she sees a new time in hers has begun

As she looks at a child with eyes blue enough to stun

And soft hands shake as they touch the soft flesh

To confirm that it belongs to her.

Eyes widen and skin touches skin

And a new feeling rises from within

As she realizes the new life she is living in

And that she will never be alone.
