A A A | A A A

Submitted: September 27, 2017

I took a drunken walk in the forest one night
And I stumbled across a world with no light
It was dark and cold
There was no end in sight

I was lost in this world
I thought until the end of my days

Then I met a voice
Who helped me see
That there was a hope
Buried under the leaves

So I dug and I dug
Until I had scars on each arm
Broken and bruised I reached deeper still
Until I had made a hole
That not even a million specks of dirt could fill

Down deep under
I saw a glow
Barely alight but enough to show

And I reached farther in
As deep as I could go
And I found a piece of myself
That not even I did know

It was a light that I found
The simplest of hues
A spot of darkness and gentle shades of blue

Calm and serene
I held this in my hands for a moment or two
Then I put it back
Because that part of me died along with you

Keep me close whatever part that you have
And never let go
I'll see you when the world tips
And the sky is low
When the tide no longer sways to the beat from down below

I'll see you then, in the only light if the moon
Never forget me friend
Cause I'll be there soon
