A lost opportunity

Summer love, false pretences

The first to break down my fences.

Silly crush, school boy jokes

Were you playing a hoax?

Months have gone. I’m still not sure

Was I drowning and hoping for more?

Little hints, small clues

They lead me to be bemused.

Questions with no real answers,

Friend don’t complete the tasks I’m after.

A change, something new,

I told you I’d miss you.

So naïve, you misunderstood,

Like so many before you,

I knew you would.

Now, here we are five years on,

And you seemed to have moved on.

I still wonder what it would feel like to hold your hand.

Will our love ever come into land?

Did you ever love me as I loved you?

Did you start to obsess too?

Did you, didn’t you,

I hope you felt it too.

Maybe I will never know,

I won’t let it show,

That actually you changed me.

I’m no longer a detainee
