world wakes with its head in the clouds,

whimpering silently from fear that grows

as sunlight bakes earthy skin,

billions of insects either yawning, buzzing or dying,

nothing more to do except take a shower and

get something hot to eat.

blazing now, the day has skipped

a heroin heartbeat to high noon,

standing naked in a garden called

Eden revisited,

not quite ready for the fresh fruit yet,

but i'll have a paradise cheeseburger, please,

hold the pickles.

what more is there except to dream of

better things than fingers trailing

water across the surface of the lake,

luring deep fishes, channel cats and walleye

to their demise as shotguns pump and

aim at anything moving

below the surface,

just like psychologists and

social workers do?

she's grown fat with

satisfaction, her jowls quiver with

her laughter at his failing

but the downtown boys have no problem,

they love to play in her rolls...

the smell of something sweet permeates the

summer landscape,

shiny cars dented with frustration

cruise an empty boulevard

looking pretty for no one at all,

its dead here in this extreme heat,

night has slunk back 'round,

jaws wide, showing rows of

needle teeth to clean the bones of

the innocent and the unsuspecting,

the earth is again, yawning,

having disposed of several fleas,

still have them sizzling atop her

once flawless skin,

she rolls over, goes to bed,

not to worry,

tomorrow is another day...
