Control
Grainy black pavement
Red car in the lot
Sun makes it sparkle
Fold the top open

Salesman is watching
….Not very subtle
Ignore his wax smile
Just ask for the keys

Touch the tempting door
Hot metal handle
Hinges are silent
Leather seat beckons

Key enters and turns
Engine stretches and
Growls when it wakes
Purring in pleasure

Salesman babbles
Cell phone buzzes
Wife or work; ignore.
Slam the door shut

Music off
Seatbelt clicks
Pedal down
Engine revs

Stirring
Crawling
Grumbling
Rumbling

Turning
Merging
Zooming
Speeding

Faster
Faster
Pass him
Pass her

Skimming
Soaring
Flying
Living

Crash.

We can try to
Take control but
There’s no guarantee
We’ll get what we need
