When you left –
She was left
By herself
Standing alone.

When you left –
She was left
With nothing
To fall back on.

When you left –
She was left
With three hungry
Mouths to feed.

When you left –
She was left
To explain
Why daddy hadn’t come home.

When you left –
She was left
To fend
For her family.

When you left –
She was left
Crying in her heart,
But smiling on her face.

When you left –
She was left
To cope with
Twice as much.

When you left –
She was left
Alone,
Broken.

When you left –
Did you stop to think:
Maybe she really did
Love you?

When you left –
Did you stop to think:
About the family
You left behind?

When you left –
Did you stop to think:
Of the others
Who were going to suffer?

When you left –
Did you stop to think:
Of anyone
Other than yourself?

When you left –
Did you stop to think:
For one small second,
About me?

Did you think about me –
Left standing –
Confused
And afraid?

Did you think about –
My sisters
And me,
Or our mother?

Or are you
So completely ignorant
That you thought
I’d still be here when you woke up?

Because the moment I’m allowed
To move out,
I’m going
And I’m not coming back to you.

Sound familiar?
