The wild is closer than you think. Hunt or be hunted. You will find both glean pleasure from the kill.

She scans the horizon for her next conquest.  Beads of sweat roll down her back.  It is summer and the options are many.  The need for satisfaction along with the humid air is thick.  As all animals do on a day like this; they collect at the Watering Hole.  She joins the circle to acquire a drink.  Eyes cautiously look her way to assess the situation.  No longer sure if the oasis is still safe, some finish their drink and walk away.  Some stay; the heat is unbearable and the need for refreshment is the first thirst they must quench this late afternoon.  This is just what she needs; she casually stretches to show her hard earned muscles and lean physique.  Her short golden brown hair rustles in the breeze and she slowly turns her head scanning the horizon with her deep green eyes.  Her attention stopping some in their tracks while others pretend not to notice or care; she can indeed smell fear and it is unappetizing.  Challenge and strength is what she is looking for this afternoon.

Blending into the scenery is important to give the prey the illusion of safety and to give the predator a variety of options; the pick of the litter so to speak.  No need to commit when you have so much to choose from and so many desires to feed.  Yes, everyone has a favorite but it is important to be versatile.  The climate changes quickly and sources sometimes grow thin or tiresome.

It only takes a moment to realize that there is no need to chase this afternoon.  The one thing she has learned is that patience brings the best meal to the table.  Eventually they will come to her, as they always do.

After satisfying this thirst she retreats to the shadows to deal with her hunger.  No need to stay in the spot light.  They all know she is there.  The first to test the waters comes her way but changes direction as soon as she looks up.  She smiles and licks her lips.  The breeze is warm and welcoming.  She closes her eyes and waits.

“Hello, my name is Lara.  May I sit here?”

Her mouth waters before she even opens her eyes.  She has been too long without sustenance.  Her last meal salty, commanding, and raw is echoing through her mind.  She remembers; some things you can’t forget.  She holds her growl at the back of her throat.  She slowly and lazily opens her eyes.  Not wanting to unnerve this brave creature.  She smiles and nods.  Lara smiles and sits.  She puts her drink down between them and crosses her legs.  It won’t be long now.

“Jo.”  She takes a drink and looks at Lara.  Watching as the blood rushes to Lara’s face Jo notices an enticing sparkle in her eyes making promises that Jo will hold her to.  She will do; for tonight.
