I’LL CLEAVE TO GUYANA

My Guyana! Industrious and rich,
Land of the mighty Roraima and Kaieteur’s wondrous beauty,
Land of the fabled city of golden El Dorado,
Of varieties in wood, unsurpassed in size and beauty,
Land of St. George’s Cathedral, and Victoria Regia,
How dear are thou to me!

I’ll cleave to Guyana, my native land -
No matter how poor, how backward the country was, it’s my own;
For riches, peace, beauty: she excels a region beyond;
I do not care what multi-racial problems it ever had,
I will cleave to Guyana: I love my Guyana.

I will cleave to Guyana, no matter
What the oppositions may do, whatever they have to say,
Their very actions I’ll refute, their intentions I’ll shatter,
Their very thoughts I’ll confuse, their beliefs I’ll send at bay;
I’ll cleave to Guyana; I love Guyana - my own land.

Oh my Guyana, land of my sires,
Land of golden opportunities and possibilities,
What force can ever there be to part me from thy brotherhood,
The glory of this our nation, the stronghold of my desires,
That cleaves me to thy land, ever fruitful and ever good.
